Southern Conference women’s basketball bracket set

UTC comes in at the No.1 seed

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has announced the seeding for the 2024 Ingles SoCon Women’s Basketball Championship, which will begin Thursday, March 7, at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina.
 
Chattanooga (25-4, 13-1 SoCon) won the regular-season title and will enter the 2024 tournament as the top seed. The Mocs will open the tournament against No. 8 seed Western Carolina (6-23, 1-13) on Thursday at 11 a.m. Chattanooga swept the matchups this year winning, 69-59, on Jan. 27 in Cullowhee, North Carolina, and 60-56 on Feb. 22. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Chattanooga will be looking for their 20th Southern Conference tournament title in school history.
 
UNCG (19-10, 8-6) is the No. 2 seed. The Spartans went 2-0 against No. 7 seed Furman (15-15, 5-9) during the season. UNCG was victorious, 70-55, on Jan. 13 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and topped the Paladins on Feb. 8, 59-56, in Greenville, South Carolina. These teams will faceoff in the 1:15 p.m. game on Thursday.
 
No. 3 seed Wofford (16-12, 8-6) will take on No. 6 Samford (14-15, 6-8) in the 3:30 p.m. matchup. The Terriers won the first matchup between the two teams, 59-41, back on Jan. 27 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, while the Bulldogs won the second meeting, 64-62, in Birmingham, Alabama, on Feb. 22.
 
Mercer (14-16, 8-6) and ETSU (18-11, 7-7) are slotted No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, and will face off in Thursday’s final game at 5:45 p.m. The two squads split the season series with the Buccaneers winning in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Jan. 13 by a score of 77-71, and the Bears won, 65-57, on Feb. 8 in Macon, Georgia.
 
Semifinal action will take place on Friday and the women’s championship game will tip off on Sunday at noon ET.
 
All women’s basketball games will be held at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville and are set to be broadcast on ESPN+. The title game will air on ESPNU for the first time in conference history. For more information, visit SoConSports.com.
