Samford’s Bowman named SoCon player of the week
Sophomore center averaged a double-double, blocked nine shots this week.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Emily Bowman has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 20-26, after averaging 14.5 points and 14.5 rebounds this week. The award is selected by the league office.
Bowman helped lead the Bulldogs to two wins this week, totaling 29 points, 29 rebounds, and nine blocked shots in games against Wofford and Furman. In a 64-62 upset over Wofford, the Huntsville, Alabama, product scored 17 points and secured 10 rebounds while blocking two shots. She shot 64 percent from the field in the contest.
Two days later in a 74-66 win over Furman, Bowman set three school records and tied a fourth, scoring 12 points and securing 19 rebounds to earn her fourth double-double this season. The sophomore center now holds the Samford program record for rebounds in a game, rebounds in a season (239), and blocks in a season (72) and has tied the record for blocks in a game.
Samford (14-14, 6-7 SoCon) will travel to Mercer on Saturday, March 2, to finish out the regular season.
