Samford’s Emily Bowman named SoCon player of the week
Senior Forward set two school records against North Alabama
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Emily Bowman has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Dec. 3-9, after averaging 12 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks per game as the Bulldogs went 2-0 last week. This award is selected by the league office.
Bowman scored 15 points and secured a school-record 21 rebounds in Samford’s 67-61 overtime win at North Alabama on Dec. 5. The double-double performance was her sixth this season, which is seventh in the NCAA in that category. The senior forward also set a program-record for blocked shots in a single game with eight.
Against Miles on Dec. 8, Bowman contributed nine points and 11 rebounds as well as four more blocked shots in 23 minutes of playing time. The Huntsville, Alabama, native went 5-for-8 at the line in the 82-41 blowout. Bowman has tallied 10 or more rebounds in eight of Samford’s 12 games.
Samford (4-8) is off this week and will travel to TCU on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
