Mercer’s Jones named SoCon player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Stacie Jones has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 27-March 4, after scoring 30 points in the Bears’ only game this week. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Jones led the Bears to a 76-69 win over the Samford Bulldogs to secure the No. 4 seed going into the SoCon tournament this weekend. The Kathleen, Georgia, native totaled a career-high 30 points and secured seven rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field. The senior forward also contributed two assists,  a steal, a blocked shot, and went 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.
 
Mercer (14-16, 8-6 SoCon) will play ETSU in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference basketball tournament on Thursday, March 7, in the fourth game of the day.
