Friday's Women's Basketball Roundup

Mercer 59, Charleston Southern 48

The Mercer women's basketball team scored a big win in the rebounding column and bridged the first and second quarters with a 16-3 run that gave it the lead for good on the way to a 59-48 win over Charleston Southern on Friday evening in Hawkins Arena. It was the second-straight home win for the Bears (3-3) who posted a 50-37 disparity in the rebounding column, including an impressive 19 offensive boards. It was the fourth road setback of the season for the Buccaneers (1-5) who saw their two-game series win streak stopped in the process as well.

UNCG 79, Livingstone 41

The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team cruised to a 79-41 win over the Livingstone Blue Bears in non-conference action on Friday night at Fleming Gymnasium.­­ The Spartans were led by junior guard Jaila Lee, who tied for the team lead with 13 points while hauling seven rebounds and notching an assist as well as a steal.

Western Carolina 71, Presbyterian 41

Vanderbilt 104, Samford 59

The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 104-59 decision at Vanderbilt Friday evening at Memorial Gymnasium. With the loss, Samford dropped its season record to 2-5. Vanderbilt improved its mark to 6-0 with the win. Sadie Stetson led Samford with 15 points, making 5-of-10 shots from three-point range. Kennedy Langham had 10 points and four assists for the Bulldogs. Emily Bowman added eight points and eight rebounds for Samford.
