Wofford's Rose Tabbed a Semifinalist for the Becky Hammon Award
Junior Guard one of 10 players honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Her Hoop Stats announced today its 10 semifinalists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award with Wofford's Rachael Rose among the honorees. The Becky Hammon Award was first given out in 2020, with South Dakota's Ciara Duffy being named the inaugural winner. FGCU's Kierstan Bell won the award in 2021 and 2022, and Massachusetts' Sam Breen won the most recent award in 2023.
Rose, a junior captain for the Wofford women's basketball team, has continued her excellent campaign since being named to the award's watch list last month. With 22.0 points per game, Rose currently leads the Southern Conference and ranks 11th nationally. She is shooting 52.2 percent on the season with a 45.5 percent three-point clip. With a free throw percentage of 89.2, Rose ranks 17th in the country. The guard is dishing 5.8 assists per game, 14th best in the country, and she has secured 8.9 rebounds per game, also tops in the conference. She adds in 2.04 steals per game, second in the league.
A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Rose has scored at least 20 points 17 times this season, including a pair of 30-point outings. One of those was a 33-point outpour at Western Carolina for a new career high. She has tallied double-digits in a program-record 42 consecutive games. After reaching 1,000 career points earlier in the season, she notched her 1,000th in a Wofford uniform at ETSU a game after recording her 500th career rebound at Chattanooga. Rose also made history on January 20 against Furman with 19 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists for the program's first-ever triple-double. That is one of her league-leading eight double-doubles on the campaign.
Well decorated on the season, Rose has been named SoCon Player of the Week seven times, a new single-season record for the league. She adds in three SoCon Player of the Month selections and three SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
Rose entered this season as the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year after being named the league's player of the year last season. She is just the second player in program history to earn the distinction, and she is now the first player in program history to be honored as a semifinalist for the Becky Hammon Award.
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award, and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC. In October, the 25-player preseason watch list was announced, and the 15 members of the midseason watch list were announced in January. The five finalists will be announced in early March. The winner will be announced around the Final Four. The list is fluid and players may play their way on or off the list over the course of the season.
