UNCG’s Nya Smith named SoCon player of the week
Freshman guard scored 19 points against Wake Forest

SPARTANBURG, S.C. UNCG’s Nya Smith has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Dec. 17-23, after tallying 19 points and five rebounds in the Spartans’ lone game last week. This award is selected by the league office.
Smith posted her sixth double-digit scoring performance of the season, tallying 19 points in a 54-50 setback at Wake Forest on Dec. 20. The freshman from Roswell, Georgia, went 7-of-17 from the field, 4-for-4 at the free throw line, secured five rebounds and had one steal in the game.
UNCG (7-5) hosts Greensboro College on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
