The win gave East Tennessee State (17-12, 8-6 SoCon) the season sweep of Furman (15-15, 5-9 SoCon) and the No. 3 seed in the next week's SoCon Tournament, set to get underway on Thursday at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C. The Buccaneers will face No. 6 seed Furman again in a 3:30 p.m. first round matchup.
Chattanooga 69, Wofford 61
Chattanooga women's basketball knew it only had one path to the No. 2 seed of the SoCon Tournament: beat Wofford. That made Saturday's Senior Day that much sweeter for the Mocs (14-13, 9-5 SoCon) when UTC rolled its way through the Terriers enroute to a 69-61 victory, clinching a second-place finish for the Mocs in the final league standings. By clinching the No. 2 seed, Coach Schirmer becomes just the third head coach in program history to have led the Mocs to a top-two seed in the SoCon Tournament in their first season at the helm of Chattanooga women's basketball. She joins Shawn Poppie and Jim Foster on the elite list.
The Wofford women's basketball team closed out its regular season slate with a hard-fought effort inside McKenzie Arena Saturday afternoon, but the Terriers were unable to best Chattanooga, falling 69-61. The Terriers end the regular season at 16-11 (8-6 SoCon) as the Mocs improve to 14-13 (9-5 SoCon). Chattanooga outshot Wofford on the day, posting a 46.4 percent clip (26-of-56) to Wofford's 29.9 percent mark (20-of-67). Both teams made nine threes.
