East Tennessee State University women's basketball fell 85-40 at No. 15 West Virginia on Friday. ETSU was led by senior guard Braylyn Milton, who finished with nine points. Junior forward Meghan Downing added four blocks. The Mountaineers opened with a scalding start, hitting five of their first six shots to take a 13-2 lead into the first media timeout, and finished with an 18-0 run. The Bucs settled in after that, with 3-point makes from Milton and Hood to cut into the WVU lead and trail 23-10 after the first quarter.
Gardner-Webb 73, Western Carolina 65
Western Carolina mounted a furious late-game rally behind a 14-point fourth-quarter effort from graduate transfer AC Carter, but ultimately fell to the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs 73-65 in nonconference women's basketball action Friday on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center. The Catamounts move to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in Cullowhee while the Runnin' Bulldogs advance to 3-7 on the year.
