SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- VMI’s Patrick Jordon has been selected as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 5.&nbsp;Jordon, a native of Providence Forge, Viriginia, began his 2024-25 season going 5-0 at the Southeast Open, in Roanoke, Virginia, the season opening tournament for the Keydets. The sophomore earned a first-place mark on the mat in his weight class. &nbsp;En route to the championship round, Jordon, who wrestles at 149, won two rounds by decision, a third-round pin, and was the victor over one Power 5 opponent via technical fall. &nbsp;&nbsp;In the championship, Jordon won &nbsp;with a pin at the 2:56 mark, sealing first place.&nbsp;VMI placed five additional wrestlers in the top 10 in the 133, 141, 184, and 197 weight classes.&nbsp;The Keydets return to the mat on Nov. 9 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the Journeymen Wranglemania Duals. &nbsp;Also nominated: Blake Boarman (Chattanooga), Todd Carter (Gardner-Webb), Eugene Harney (Campbell), Billy Janzer (The Citadel), Tanner Peake (Davidson), Luke Uliano (App State) &nbsp;2024-25 SoCon Wrestler of the Week&nbsp; &nbsp;Nov. 6 Patrick Jordon, So., VMI &nbsp;

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Campbell Camels have been selected as the preseason frontrunner for the third straight season for the upcoming 2024-25 wrestling campaign by the league’s nine head coaches, who also selected a 10-member preseason all-conference team. &nbsp; Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams or student-athletes. Five wrestlers maxed out with the number of points possible to be selected to the pre-season all-conference team, and five of the wrestlers on the preseason all-conference team were individual title winners at the 2024 SoCon Championship. Two wrestlers selected to the preseason all-conference team received additional NCAA allocations last season.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Campbell, who finished second to App State with 97.5 points in last year’s SoCon tournament, earned 64 points in the preseason poll and garnered eight first-place votes. The Camels went 8-0 in conference matchups last season and held a 14-3 record overall, fueled by a pair of victories over Big Ten opponents, topping then ninth-ranked Nebraska on Nov. 10, and then 19th-ranked Stanford on Dec. 19.&nbsp;The Camels, the 2024 SoCon regular season champion, had five wrestlers selected to the preseason All-SoCon team with Anthony Molton (125), Domenic Zaccone (133), Dom Baker (174), Levi Hopkins (197), and Taye Ghadiali (HWT) making the squad.&nbsp; Hopkins and Ghadiali, both were individual champions at the 2024 SoCon Championship, and Zaccone and Baker received allocations to the NCAA Tournament. Molton, Hopkins, and Ghadiali maxed out on the on the first-place votes in their respective weight class in preseason voting. Ghadiali will be looking for his fourth straight individual title at heavyweight, while Hopkins will be looking for a third consecutive individual conference crown.&nbsp; &nbsp; App State, the 2024 SoCon tournament champion, came in second with 55 points and a first-place vote in the preseason poll. The Mountaineers enter their 15th season under the direction of the three-time defending Southern Conference Coach of the Year JohnMark Bentley. Two App State wrestlers, Will Miller (165) and Tomas Brooker (184), were selected to the preseason all-conference team. Miller, who won the 165-pound title in 2024, went 25-8 overall with a perfect 8-0 mark in SoCon matches during the 2023-24 season. Brooker, won the 184-pound title in 2024, with a 21-15 overall record and a 6-2 record in conference matches. Miller and Brooker were the final wrestlers to max out the first-place votes in their respective weight class in the preseason voting. Chattanooga collected 46 points in the preseason poll and placed two wrestlers on the all-conference squad. Isaiah Powe, who won the 141-pound title in 2024, went 25-4 overall, posting a perfect 8-0 mark in conference matches. The Mocs’ other member of the preseason all-conference team is Noah Castillo, who moved from 149-pound to the 157-pound weight class. At 149, Castillo posted a 13-4 overall record, going 8-0 in duals and 2-0 in SoCon matches last season.&nbsp;&nbsp;There was a tie for the fourth selection between Bellarmine and The Citadel, with both logging 42 points. Gardner-Webb finished in the sixth spot with 25 points. Davidson, VMI, and Presbyterian were selected in the final three sports with 22, 20, and 8 points respectively. Bellarmine’s Zac Cowan rounded out the preseason all-conference team.&nbsp;&nbsp;The 2024-25 wrestling season gets underway on Nov. 1. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Campbell heavyweight <dfn>Taye Ghadiali</dfn> became just the second Campbell wrestler to make the podium at the NCAA Championships, as he finished in eighth place at this year's finale held at the T-Mobile Center.



Ghadiali joins Nathan Kraisser (2017) as the only two wrestlers from Campbell to finish in the top eight at nationals. Kraisser also finished in eighth at 125 pounds.



Ghadiali becomes the seventh Campbell wrestler to be named All-American, joining Kraisser and five others who received the honor in the 2020 season that was cut short before the NCAA Championships.



Ghadiali finishes the 2023-24 season with a 35-5 record. The 35 wins is the fifth-highest mark in Campbell wrestling history. He also finished the year with 12 pins, tied for second-most in program history.



In addition to Ghadiali, five other Campbell wrestlers competed at the NCAAs this weekend, with four recording a victory. <dfn>Domenic Zaccone</dfn> won his first-round matchup in an upset over No. 11 ranked Zeth Romney (Cal Poly).



At 165 pounds, No. 26 <dfn>Dom Baker</dfn> defeated No. 23 Derek Fields (NC State) with a pin, and <dfn>Austin Murphy</dfn> defeated Mizzou's Peyton Mocco (No. 22) with a 5-3 decision in the first round.



No. 28 <dfn>Caleb Hopkins</dfn> advanced in the consolation bracket by way of a medical forfeit from Brian Soldano (Rutgers) before falling in a 13-6 decision against No. 11 Colton Hawks (Mizzou). <dfn>Levi Hopkins</dfn> dropped two tight matches against Evan Bockman (#20, UVU) and No. 29 Justin Rademacher of Oregon State.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman won their 12th straight men’s and women’s titles at the 2024 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships., &nbsp;Furman’s Dylan Schubert won the men’s race, breaking an 11-year course record, while the Paladins’ Carly Wilkes captured the women’s individual title, shattering the former course record.&nbsp;The men’s 8K race led off the day at 10 a.m. Schubert, a fifth-year senior from Loveland, Colorado, finished in 23:40.1. Schubert won his third-straight individual title. Schubert, the SoCon Runner of the Year, was the first of seven Furman runners to finish in the top 10, as the 23rd-ranked Paladins scored a perfect 15 points. &nbsp;Luke Taylor, a junior math and economics major from Rockville, Virginia, and the eighth-place finisher, was named the Knight Commission Pinnacle Award winner.&nbsp;The Pinnacle Award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on the men’s and women’s winning teams. Furman coach Robert Gary was named the SoCon Coach of the Year. Carson Williams of Furman was second with a time of 24:07.7. Furman’s Christopher Knight came in third with a time of 24:20.9, followed by teammate Evan Guzman at 24:21.0. Furman’s Colin Eckerman and Nicholas Goldstein, Chattanooga’s Jackson Martin, Western Carolina’s Drew Zink, and VMI’s Kevin Shank, finished out the All-SoCon team, completing the race in that order.&nbsp; Western Carolina, the runner-up in the men’s race, finished with 94 points. UNCG finished third with 108 points.&nbsp;The women’s 5K race followed at 10:45 a.m. Wilkes finished in first with a time of 16:09.7. Wilkes is Furman’s fourth straight individual women’s champion, and was named the SoCon Runner of the Year. Furman coach Rita Gary was tabbed the SoCon Coach of the Year after leading the Paladins to their 12th straight title. The dozen consecutive championships is the longest active winning streak in Division I. Furman junior Kaylie Armitage placed second, finishing in 16:15.3. Furman’s Jenna Mulhern placed third with a time of 16:22.7.
