App State's Luke Uliano named SoCon Wrestler of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – App State’s Luke Uliano has been selected as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 15-21.
A native of Powell, Ohio, Uliano went 2-0 in competition last week, including a 19-3 technical fall against Virginia Tech’s Lenox Wolak, a 2024 All-American, on Jan. 19.
Uliano had a takedown in the opening 10 seconds against the 20th-ranked Wolak, then added four near fall points in building a 7-1 advantage through one period. He had another takedown with 1:23 left in the second and finished that period on top, then followed a third-period reversal by Wolak with another takedown and near fall points.
Uliano contributed to App State’s 45-5 win over Duke on Jan. 20 with a first-period pin of the Blue Devils’ Gaetano Console.
With the two wins, Uliano improved to 11-6 on the season, tallying a 60%-win percentage for his App State career to this point.
