Chattanooga's Sergio Desiante named SoCon wrestler of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Sergio Desiante has been selected as the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 1-7.
Desiante, a native of Tampa, Florida, went undefeated as the Mocs hosted the Southern Scuffle to open 2025.
The sophomore won five matches en route to becoming the first Chattanooga wrestler to win their weight class at the Southern Scuffle.
Two of Desiante’s five victories came against top 10 opponents, fourth-ranked Lennox Wolak of Virginia Tech, and 10th-ranked Gaven Sax of Oklahoma.
Desiante’s performance also earned him Most Outstanding Wrestling honors for the event.
Desiante is ranked 27th in the latest Intermat DI wrestling ranking, climbing six spots from his previous ranking. Desiante climbed nine spots on the FloWrestling rankings following his performance at the Southern Scuffle, currently sitting at 20th in the 174-weight class.
Chattanooga will open its conference schedule on Jan. 19 as they host Campbell.
