About the Championship
The 2011 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship will took place on Saturday, March 5th at the Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. This year was the 74th Annual Southern Conference Wrestling Championship. Chattanooga took home their 25th title with 98 points, while UNCG claimed the runner-up spot with 87.5.
The preliminary matches began Saturday, March 5th at 11:00 a.m. ET, with the finals taking place at 7:00 p.m. ET that evening. All ten weight class champions received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, along with the second place finishers in the 165, 184 and 285 pound weight classes.
Last year's Southern Conference Wrestling Championship was held in Davidson, N.C. Upsets were prevalent as the championship unveiled and UNCG earned its first outright SoCon wrestling championship, snapping Chattanooga's five-year winning streak with 81.5 points and three individual champions.
