Campbell’s Hopkins named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell’s Caleb Hopkins has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Jan. 31-Feb. 6. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Hopkins, who is ranked No. 29 at 184 pounds, went 2-0 last week in two home conference duals. The Palmer, Alaska, product pinned App State’s Tomas Booker in 54 seconds on Feb. 2, earning six points in his victory. Two days later, the graduate student won a 1-0 decision against 27th-ranked Gardner-Webb wrestler Jha’Quan Anderson. Hopkins’ win represented the highest-ranked opponent defeated by a Camel during the week.
 
The Camels defeated App State, 22-16, in comeback fashion, winning the final four matches of the day. Campbell topped Gardner-Webb, 43-3, to close out the week.
 
Campbell (9-3, 3-0 SoCon) hosts The Citadel (11-3, 3-1) on Friday before traveling to Bellarmine (13-1, 3-1) on Sunday.
