SoCon women’s soccer players of the week announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina forward Milla Syska and Wofford goalkeeper Elizabeth Navola have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 10-16.

Syska, who also received the honor on Sept. 3, scored a goal in each of Western Carolina’s wins last week. The junior started and played 61 minutes against Presbyterian on Sept. 12, scoring the game’s lone goal in the 13th minute of a 1-0 victory. On Sept. 15, the native of Charlotte, North Carolina, found the back of the net in the 54th minute, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Catamounts versus Winthrop, a game Western Carolina would win 4-0. Syska is currently second in the SoCon in goals (6).

Navola played all 180 minutes inside the net for Wofford last week, recording a pair of shutouts for the Terriers. In a 2-0 win at UNC Asheville on Sept. 12, the freshman faced 15 shots, logging a career-high seven saves in the victory. Two days later, the Davidson, North Carolina, product had four saves in a scoreless draw at USC Upstate. Navola has recorded a shutout in three straight matches, all of which were on the road.

Western Carolina (5-2-2) opens conference play this week, hosting Samford (3-5-1) on Thursday, Sept. 19, and Mercer (6-2-1) on Sunday, Sept. 22. Wofford (4-4-1) will play its first SoCon match against Chattanooga (1-4-3) on Thursday, Sept. 19, before going to The Citadel (4-2-2) on Sunday, Sept. 22.
