SoCon Announces 2004 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today announced its TIAA-CREF Academic All-Conference teams for the fall of 2004. A total of 244 student-athletes, representing all 12 Southern Conference institutions, were named to the team.

The 244 student-athletes averaged a 3.39 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. One hundred forty-four of those student-athletes earned a 3.5 or above.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have competed in at least one-half of their team?s competitions during the fall.

This is the third year that the Southern Conference has named an All-Academic Team by season. The All-Academic teams are made possible by a grant from the Southern Conference's Education Partner, TIAA-CREF.

Women's soccer placed the most student-athletes on the team with 81, followed by women's cross country with 43 and volleyball with 37. Wofford had the most individuals selected with 35 honorees, followed by Elon with 31 and Appalachian State with 29.
