Mercer’s Minetti named SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Graduate student went 3-0 in singles play, including victory over Florida State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Mariella Minetti has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 27-March 4, the conference announced on Tuesday.  The award is selected by the league office.
 
Minetti went 5-0 this week, picking up three singles wins at the No. 4 position and two doubles wins at the No. 3 position against Georgia College, Troy, and Florida State.
 
Against Georgia College on Feb. 28, Minetti partnered with Tea Zivic for the No. 3 doubles match which they won, 6-0, against GCSU’s Ashley Bentz and Shradha Chhabra. The graduate student then won singles in straight sets, beating Ashton Morrison 6-0, 6-2.
 
In her match against Troy’s Valeriia Avdeeva on March 2, Minetti won in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. The Tampere, Finland, native paired with Zivic again to defeat Kristina Kukaras and Gabrielle Leslie, 4-2.
 
On March 3, Minetti gave Mercer a team point against Florida State for just the second time in series history after beating Millie Bissett 1-6, 6-4, 10-4.

Mercer (7-4) host UConn on Saturday.
