Elon, UTC, Samford Advance in Women's Tennis Championship

BURLINGTON, NC ? Sixth-seeded Elon topped 11th-seeded Appalachian State 5-0 in the first round of the 2009 Southern Conference Tennis Championship today at the Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington, NC.  The Phoenix advance to take on third-seeded UNC Greensboro at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Elon Tennis Center.

 

Elon picked up the doubles point with wins at the #2 and #3 positions. Hayley Wahl picked up the first singles win for the Phoenix, 6-0, 6-0 over Lane Arnold at #5. Whitney Butcher (#6), Anna Milian (#1) and Paige Kensrue (#2) rounded out the singles wins for Elon.

BURLINGTON, NC ? Seventh-seeded Samford topped 10th-seeded Appalachian State 4-2 in the first round of the 2009 Southern Conference Tennis Championship today at the Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington, NC.  The Bulldogs advance to take on second-seeded College of Charleston at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Elon Tennis Center.

 

Samford picked up the doubles point with wins at the #1 and #2 positions. The Bulldogs picked up their first singles win at #2 with Adnrie Meiring topping Ashley Lawrence 6-0, 6-3 at #2 followed by Stephanie Parkison winning at #3 singles. Wofford picked up a singles win at #5 with Sonia Anand defeating Beth Erwin 6-2, 6-1. Taylor Morgan clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Wofford’s Cayley Wetzig.

BURLINGTON, NC ? Ninth-seeded Chattanooga edged eighth-seeded Appalachian State 4-2 in the first round of the 2009 Southern Conference Tennis Championship today at the Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington, NC.  The Mocs advance to take on top-seeded Furman at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the Elon Tennis Center.

 

Chattanooga’s Jennemieke van der Veek clinched the match for the Mocs, dropping the first set 6-3 to Lindsay King before taking the second and third sets 6-3, 6-2.

 

Appalachian State won the doubles point with wins at #2 and #3 and grabbed a win at #3 singles with Caroline Mauch’s 6-3, 6-3 win over Charlotte Bossy. Emily Hangstefer picked up UTC’s first singles win 6-3, 6-1 over Amanda Cash, followed by Brianna Wishing at #5 singles and Anne Green at #4 singles.
