Furman’s Sara Snyder named SoCon player of the week
Senior defeated Alabama in doubles and singles
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Sara Snyder has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 14-20, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Snyder went 2-0 this week, picking up a No.1 doubles win and a singles win at the No. 2 position in a 4-3 Furman upset against 22nd-ranked Alabama.
In the Jan. 20 matchup, Snyder paired with Ellie Schulson for a doubles match with Margaux Maquet and Maria Martinez. Snyder and Schulson won 6-0, setting the Paladins up to clinch the doubles point. In her singles matchup against Klara Milicevic, the San Juan, Puerto Rico, native won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, claiming the first singles point for Furman.
Furman (1-0) will host North Florida on Friday, Jan. 24, in a 3 p.m. match up before taking on Appalachian State in Greenville on Sunday at 11 a.m.
