ETSU’s Markova named SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Senior honored for second consecutive week after going 4-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Sofia Markova has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 26-April 1, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Markova, who received the honor last week, went 4-0 this week, picking up two singles wins at the No. 1 position, and two doubles wins at the No. 2 position against No. 57 VCU and Xavier.
On March 29 against VCU, she paired with Alessandra Caceres for the No. 2 doubles matchup against Emma Valletta and Yelizaveta Karlova, which they won 7-6 (7-4). At No. 1 singles, the Nuremberg, Germany, product defeated Karlova in three sets, 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 6-0. ETSU won the match 4-3.
Against Xavier on March 31, the senior paired with Caceres again and the pair defeated Abby Nugent and Ellie Brotherton, 6-2. In singles, Markova won at the No. 1 position, defeating Imani Graham, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1).
ETSU (12-6, 5-0 SoCon) hosts Charlotte on Friday before welcoming Samford (6-10, 2-2) on Sunday for a conference matchup.
