Samford Wins 2015 Women's Tennis Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. –Samford University captured the 2015 Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Championship with a 4-1 win over ETSU Sunday. It is Samford’s first women’s tennis title since joining the league.
The Bulldogs, who won the league’s regular-season championship, opened the match by taking the doubles point for the third time this weekend. Yasmeen Ebada and Jessica Northcutt claimed an 8-2 victory at No. 2 over Regina Nychytailova and Jessica Brumit. Samford then earned the team point when Stephanie N’tcha and Carita Moolman claimed an 8-6 victory over Lyn Yee Choo and Ana Gerbasi at No. 1 doubles.
Northcutt, who was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Gerbasi at No. 3. Northcutt finished the weekend with three singles wins and was a part of three victories at No. 2 doubles for the Bulldogs.
Moolman scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ioanna Markesini at No. 4 singles to give the Bulldogs (16-8) a 3-0 lead in the match.
Choo gave the Bucs (15-6) their only point in the match as she recorded a three-set win over N’tcha (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) at No. 1 singles.
Yasmeen Ebada’s 6-4, 6-3 win over Regina Nychytailova at No. 2 doubles clinched the win for the Bulldogs.
