Western Carolina 5, Mercer 2
Western Carolina women's tennis matched its program-best eight-match win streak on Saturday, claiming the doubles point and four singles matches to upend the Mercer Bears 5-2 in Southern Conference action at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. The Catamounts (14-7, 4-1 SoCon) swept the doubles point for the first time since their home win over North Carolina A&T, and posted singles wins on courts one, two, four, and five to secure the victory. Mercer (6-13, 2-4 SoCon) dropped its third straight conference matchup and faces the Samford Bulldogs in its regular-season finale on April 10.
The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match at home, 5-2 to Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. In doubles action, Western Carolina's Jade Groen and Chloe Schwarz defeated Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg, 6-1. Angela Perez and Madison Schwarz clinched the doubles point for the Catamounts with a 6-3 win over Marie Bannmeyer and Jelena Gojkovic on court three. The last doubles match also went the Catamounts way as Andrea Redondo and Isabella Sambola defeated Emilia Cosatto and Tea Zivic, 6-4.
ETSU 4, Chattanooga 3
The ETSU women's tennis team sent its seniors off with a 4-3 win over Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon. The victory, which is ETSU's 18th straight against a conference opponent, improves ETSU's record to 11-7 overall and 5-0 in SoCon action. The match began well for ETSU as it not only won all three doubles matches but also started singles action with victories from Julia Millan (6-4, 7-5) and Ksenija Rage (6-0, 6-0). With a 3-0 lead, Chattanooga mounted a rally to tie the match at 3-3. Senior Daniela Rivera, however, rallied in her singles tilt to clinch the match for the Bucs out of the No. 1 singles flight, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Furman 5, Samford 2
No. 39 Furman topped Samford, 5-2, Saturday at the Samford Tennis Center. With the victory, the Paladins improve to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in league play, while Samford falls to 9-10 overall and 1-3 in the SoCon. The Bulldogs won two out of three doubles matches to take the first point. The teams split the first two contests, with Samford's Emily Surcey and Sara Erenda beating 72nd ranked seniors Sara Snyder and Ellie Schulson, 6-3, at flight one, and Furman senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Macy Hitchcock defeated Margaret Jaraczewski and Hailey Troup, 6-2, at number two. In the decisive flight three match, Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor teamed up for a 6-2 advantage over seniors Marissa Pennings and Alexa Griffith to score the point. Furman won five out of six singles matches for the team victory.
The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 39th-ranked Furman Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center. With the loss, Samford fell to 9-10 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference play. Furman improved to 15-3 overall and 4-0 in league play. Samford won on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Emily Surcey and Sara Erenda defeated the 72nd-ranked Sara Snyder and Ellie Schulson, 6-3. On the No. 3 doubles court, Eleni Liakonis and Meredith Taylor earned a 6-2 win over Marissa Pennings and Alexa Griffith. In singles, Samford won at the No. 2 position, but Furman won at the other five spots for the 5-2 win.
East Carolina 7, UNCG 0
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell 7-0 in a non-conference matchup to the Pirates of East Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. Alexandra Dodashev, Olivia Gallagher, Raegan Mitchell and Luna Urso were recognized in a special senior day ceremony on Saturday prior to the team's contest against the Pirates.
