SoCon Women’s Tennis Championship pairings announced
No. 41 Furman claims top seed for the 27th times

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman has earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, which will be contested April 17-19 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The 41st-ranked Paladins, who claimed their 27th regular season championship, enter the tournament with an 18-3 overall record and went a perfect 7-0 in league play, downing ETSU 5-2 on Saturday in a battle of SoCon unbeatens to clinch the regular-season SoCon title. Furman downed its quarterfinal opponent, No. 8 seed UNCG, 7-0 on February 27. The Paladins and Spartans, which went 3-18 overall and 0-7 in SoCon, last met in the quarterfinals of the SoCon tournament in 2023, which Furman won 4-0. They will square off at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
No. 4 seed Western Carolina went 14-9 overall and 4-3 in SoCon play and will face No. 5 seed Mercer, which enters tournament play 7-13 overall and 3-4 in league matches, on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. The pair met on April 5th of the regular season, with the Catamounts claiming a 5-2 win. This will be the first time these teams have met in the SoCon tournament.
In the bottom half of the bracket, No. 2 seed ETSU faces No. 7 seed Samford at 3:00 p.m. Thursday. The Bucs went 12-8 overall and 6-1 in league play and topped the Bulldogs (9-13, 1-6 SoCon) on March 30, (6-1). ETSU is 2-0 against Samford in SoCon tournament play, with the Bucs winning in the 2018 and 2022 semifinals.
The final matchup sees No. 3 seed Wofford facing No. 6 seed Chattanooga on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. The Terriers went 16-3 overall and 5-2 in SoCon play, while the Mocs enter the tournament with a record of 11-10 overall and 2-5 in league action. Wofford claimed a 7-0 win on March 22nd in the league’s regular-season matchup. The last quarterfinals match between the Terriers and Mocs was in the 2022 SoCon tournament, which Chattanooga won, 4-2.
Friday’s semifinals are at 2 p.m., with Saturday’s title match set for 1 p.m.
Among current members, Furman owns a league-best 21 SoCon tournament titles, while Chattanooga has won five and ETSU has won three.
