Sunday's Women's Tennis Roundup

No. 37 Furman 4, Elon 1
No. 37 Furman stymied Elon, 4-1, Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C. The Paladins swept the doubles matches to picked up the opening point.  Seniors Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder, who rank 58th in this week's national poll, defeated Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya, 6-4, at number one, and senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Ellie Schulson, who rank 64th nationally, won the final three games to slip past Mariana Reding and Simone Bergeron, 7-5, at flight two. At flight three, seniors Grace Thomas and Alexa Griffith took four of the last five games, holding off Lisa Kranec and Heidi Bulger, 6-4.

No. 58 ETSU 4, VCU 3
East Tennessee State University women's tennis climbed out of a 2-1 deficit to record a 4-3 win over VCU on Sunday. Julia Millan and Jana Rovira won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles before the Rams evened it at 1-1 at No. 1 doubles. Ralitsa Alexandrova and Ksjenia Rage won the tiebreaking match 7-6 (7-3) to deliver the Bucs the doubles point. In singles, VCU quickly won points on courts two and three. Millan tied the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win before Rivera came back to win on court one 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 and Alexandrova clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win. 

UNCG 6, Queens 1
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Queens on Sunday afternoon at the Howard Levine Tennis Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Raegan Mitchell and Sydney Bly secured the 6-2 win over Audrey Serb and Zoe Cvitanovic on court two. Lauren Thomson and Elisabeth Birkevold earned a 6-1 victory over Nyanyuie Tomegah and Jett Coetzee on court three to grant the Spartans the doubles point.

South Alabama 4, Samford 1
The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to South Alabama Sunday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center. With the loss, Samford fell to 6-3 on the season. South Alabama improved its record to 5-2 with the win. South Alabama won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to take the first points of the contest. In singles, South Alabama won at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 to secure the win.
