Friday's Women's Tennis Roundup
Furman swept North Florida, 7-0, Friday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. The Paladins won two doubles contests to score the opening point. Seniors Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder blew past Isabel Oliveira and Nicole Alfaro Solis, 6-1, at number one, and senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Macy Hitchcock teamed up to beat Laurie Barendse and Anslee Long, 6-1, at flight two. The flight three match was unfinished with seniors Grace Thomas and Alexa Griffith leading Aryana Bartlett and Alisa Lyshko, 4-3.
Samford 4, Jacksonville State 3
The Samford women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Jacksonville State Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center. Samford improved to 2-1 with the win. Jacksonville State fell to 0-1 with the loss. Jacksonville State won the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead. Samford won the singles matches at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to come back for the 4-3 win. At No. 1 singles, Emily Surcey defeated Irene Artigas, 6-3, 6-1.
