<div class="payload-richtext">ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For the second consecutive season, the Wofford Terriers (17-13), the No. 3 seed, won the Ingles SoCon Volleyball Championship in five sets (25-23, 23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 17-15) over the top seed ETSU, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship on Sunday afternoon inside Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville. Sunday’s win made the Terriers the third program to win at least three consecutive SoCon tournament titles in volleyball. The other occurrences were Chattanooga from 1996-98, College of Charleston from 2004-07, and Samford from 2018-2021. The squads split the first 18 points of the contest. Wofford went on the first run of the match, going ahead 15-11 at the media timeout. ETSU slowly got back into the frame, forcing a Wofford timeout after its lead was trimmed to 21-20. ETSU tied the set at 22-22 with a kill by Chloe Smith. On the next point, Wofford got a kill from its own Chloe Smith, prompting a timeout from the Bucs. After the break, ETSU tied the score at 23-23, but the Terriers got two straight points via an attack error and a kill by Emily Normand, ending the frame at 25-23. Wofford held the lead at the media timeout once again in the second set, holding a 15-13 advantage at the break. The Terriers quickly doubled that lead, moving ahead 18-14 on a kill by Lauren Marschke and forcing a timeout by the Bucs. ETSU scored five of the next six points, punctuated by a kill from second-team all-conference selection Brianna Cantrell, which tied the score at 19-19 and led to a Wofford timeout. After alternating the next four points, ETSU went ahead 22-21 on a another kill by Cantrell. The Buccaneers got to set point after an attack error made the score 24-22. The Terriers got back to within one point before SoCon Player of the Year Makayla Bays got a kill, ending the set 25-23 in favor of ETSU. The Bucs continued their strong play into the third frame, building a 12-8 lead early in the set. ETSU took a timeout following a block by Wofford’s Bradley Brown and Natalie Arnold closed the gap to 13-11. The Bucs ran off six straight points after that with Melanie Morris on the service line, assuming control of the set. Wofford was able to side-out on the next point but would not get closer than six for the remainder of the frame. A kill from all-freshman team performer Sophia Davis ended the set, 25-17, giving ETSU a 2-1 lead in the match. In the fourth set, the two teams split the opening 28 points. Whitley Rammel gave the Bucs a 15-14 lead going into the media timeout. The score would continue to change hands until a 4-0 run by the Terriers with Taylor Pecht on the service line put them ahead 22-19, prompting a timeout by ETSU. The Terriers would continue their run after the break. Wofford got the final three points, finished by a kill from Arnold to set the stage for the deciding set. ETSU got out to an early 5-2 lead, bringing on a timeout by Wofford. Following the break, the Terriers went on a 6-0 run before the Bucs forced a side-out. Wofford would build its lead to 11-8 following a kill by Annemarie Rakoski, but three straight points from ETSU after that put both teams four points from victory. Rammel got back-to-back aces out of the break. Wofford responded with the next three points to get to match point. Kills came from Davis and Bays on the next two points, getting ETSU to match point. The Terriers would get the next three points on a kill and two blocks, ending the frame 17-15 and giving Wofford the championship. The match featured 41 ties and 18 lead changes. Wofford’s Chloe Smith, the 2025 SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player, finished with 21 kills and 10 digs. Brown and Rakoski, both of whom made the all-tournament team, had 18 and eight kills, respectively. Morris finished with a team-high 28 digs for ETSU. Rammel had 13 kills, four blocks and three aces. Wofford will learn its NCAA tournament opponent during the selection show on Sunday, Nov. 30. <div class="payload-richtext">No. 1 ETSU 3, No. 5 UNCG 1 ASHEVILLE, N.C. – No. 1 ETSU topped No. 5 UNCG in four sets in the first semifinal match of the Ingles SoCon Volleyball Championship inside Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville on Saturday. ETSU advances to the SoCon championship match for the first time since the 2019 season. A win for the Buccaneers on Sunday will give them their first SoCon tournament title in eight years. ETSU scored the first three points of the contest, but UNCG would quickly even the score at 5-5. The two teams would split the next 10 points before the Buccaneers would get separation by going on a 5-1 run, punctuated by a kill from Isabelle Iosua. The Bucs’ lead would eventually grow to eight points before the Spartans ended the rally with four straight points of their own, prompting a timeout by ETSU. The frame would go back-and-forth over the next few points before a service ace by first-team all-conference selection Whitley Rammel ended the set at 25-18, giving the Bucs a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, UNCG got off to a good start, building a 10-6 advantage. The Spartans led 15-11 going into the media timeout after a pair of kills by all-freshman team performer Connore’ Siler-Nixon. After the break, UNCG would get its lead to 18-13 following a kill by McKenna Timmerman, leading to a timeout by ETSU. The Spartans’ lead would increase to 22-15 before the Bucs took another timeout. Rammel got a kill out of the break, but UNCG’s momentum was not stopped as they would eventually win the frame, 25-18, following a kill by first-team all-conference selection Allie Sweet. UNCG continued its strong play into the third frame, grabbing an early 6-1 lead. ETSU responded to eventually go ahead 10-9 on a kill by SoCon Player of the Year Makayla Bays, forcing an UNCG timeout. The Buccaneers would move their lead to 18-14 before the Spartans began to rally back. UNCG would tie the set at 21-21 on a service ace by Kendall Lanclos and take the lead on the next point with a block from Gabby Seeds and Elenoa Sing, prompting an ETSU timeout. After another point by the Spartans, the Bucs scored three straight to get to set point. Two kills by Sweet and a kill from Rammel knotted the frame at 25-25. ETSU would then get kills from Chloe Smith and Bays, ending the frame at 27-25 to give the Bucs a 2-1 advantage in the match. In the fourth set, the squads split the opening 12 points. The Bucs would go on a run, getting a 12-8 lead before a timeout by the Spartans. Following the break, ETSU kept the pressure on, forcing another timeout after a kill by Sophia Davis made the score 17-11. UNCG would not go away quietly, forcing a timeout from the top seed after two straight attack errors made the score 23-19. Three straight kills courtesy of Sweet and Seeds brought the Spartans within one at 23-22, prompting another timeout by the Bucs. Sweet got a kill out of the break, tying the score at 23-23. Iosua’s kill on the next point put the Bucs one point away from victory. The next point was an attack error from the Spartans, which was challenged but the call stood, giving ETSU a 25-23 win in the fourth set. Bays had a double-double, finishing with a team-high 20 kills and 11 digs. Smith recorded a season-high 19 kills, while Melanie Morris logged a match-high 18 digs for ETSU. The Terriers will be playing for their third consecutive conference title on Sunday. Wofford led throughout the opening set. The Terriers got out to an early 7-1 lead, bringing on a quick timeout by Furman. The Paladins would claw their way back into the frame, closing the gap to 12-11 following a kill by Grainne McGrath. Wofford scored six of the next seven points, going ahead 18-12 on a kill by second-team all-conference selection Chloe Smith. Furman used its second timeout of the set after that point. The lead for the Terriers remained above six for the remainder of the frame. Maddy Frazier’s first kill of the contest ended the set, 25-17, in favor of Wofford. Wofford had a good start again in the second set, leading 15-12 at the media timeout. Furman went on a run after the break, evening the score at 17-17 on an ace by McGrath. The Terriers took their first timeout of the contest at that point. The squads split the next six points before Wofford scored two straight, leading to a timeout by Furman. The Paladins got within one on two different occasions, but a service error gave the Terriers a 25-23 victory in the second set. In the third set, the two teams went back-and-forth at the outset. They split the opening 24 points before Wofford scored three of the next four points, punctuated by a kill from first-team all-conference selection Bradley Brown prior to the media timeout. Furman would tie the score at 16-16. The Terriers would get on another run, going up 22-18 following a kill from Smith, which made the Paladins take a timeout. Furman trimmed the lead to 23-21 after Tennyson Gorman and Izzy Castelloe combined for a block, prompting a timeout from Wofford. After the break, the Terriers got kills from Smith and Brown to end the contest. Smith logged a match-high 15 kills. Taylor Pecht led all players with 25 assists for Wofford. UNCG advances to face the winner of No. 1 ETSU and No. 8 Western Carolina in the semifinals, slated for Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville. The opening set began as a true back-and-forth affair as the two teams would split the first 28 points. A kill from Chattanooga’s Kendyl MacAskill broke the tie, leading to a media timeout. Following the break, UNCG tied the score at 15-15 before a pair of kills by Sydney Jackwin put the Mocs ahead 17-15, forcing a timeout by the Spartans. UNCG clawed its way back and eventually took a 23-21 advantage after a run of four straight points, leading to a timeout by Chattanooga. The Spartans continued their run after the timeout, getting points off a kill by Robin Rosser and a block from Rosser and all-freshman team selection Connore’ Siler-Nixon to win the set 25-21. In the second set, Chattanooga got out to an early 4-1 lead, punctuated by an ace from Ashley Reynolds. The Spartans responded with six straight points, prompting a timeout by the Mocs. Chattanooga would go on a run and eventually tie the score at 9-9 following a kill by Kynli Kirkendoll, but another 6-0 run by UNCG forced a timeout from the fourth seed. UNCG would get to set point after a kill from McKenna Timmerman. The Mocs did not go quietly, scoring five straight points to make the score 24-21 in favor of the Spartans. UNCG would win the frame on the next point off an error by Chattanooga, making the score 2-0 in the match. Chattanooga grabbed an early lead for the second set in a row, going ahead 11-8 after an attack error from UNCG. The Mocs continued to keep the Spartans at bay, eventually going ahead 20-17 after a kill from Jackwin. The Spartans scored four of the next five points, punctuated by a kill from first-team all-conference selection Allie Sweet. The two teams split the next four points before a kill by Siler-Nixon put UNCG one point away from victory, leading to a timeout by Chattanooga. The Mocs’ Gracie Rose got a kill on the next point after an unsuccessful challenge by the Spartans, tying the score at 24-24. UNCG got a kill from Sweet to get back to match point, but two straight points from Chattanooga led to a timeout by the Spartans with the score 26-25 in favor of the Mocs. After UNCG tied the score at 26-26, Chattanooga scored the last two points off an error and a kill from Jackwin, sending the match into the fourth set. In the fourth frame, UNCG got out to an early 11-5 lead following an ace by Graylinn Serge. Chattanooga worked its way back into the set, eventually making the score 15-13 and forcing a timeout by the Spartans. The Buccaneers will now face fifth-seeded UNCG in the semifinal round scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville. The eighth-seeded Catamounts began the match with a fury. Western Carolina got out to an 11-5 advantage early in the set and kept its lead into the media timeout after a kill by Rayna Taylor Freshman of the Year Tatum Sharp made the score 15-10. ETSU slowly crept back into the set, eventually tying the set at 19-19 following three straight kills from the SoCon Player of the Year Makayla Bays. Following a timeout by Western Carolina, ETSU seized control by scoring six of the next nine points. The set would end 25-22 on an error by the Catamounts, giving the Bucs a 1-0 lead in the match. For the second consecutive frame, Western Carolina got off to a quick start which was once again answered by a run from ETSU. The Catamounts scored the set’s first four points, but the Bucs came back to eventually take a 15-14 lead before the media timeout. The top seed continued its strong play after play resumed, building the lead to 19-16 following a kill by Chloe Smith. The lead would get up to 21-16 following kills from Isabelle Iosua and Smith, forcing a Western Carolina timeout. ETSU would get to set point after an error by Western Carolina made the score 24-17. A service error and attack error by the Bucs kept the frame alive, before an attack error from the Catamounts ended the set at 25-19. In the third set, the two teams split the opening 24 points before ETSU scored three straight, forcing a timeout by Western Carolina. The Buccaneers would lengthen their lead to as many as five before the Catamounts got back in the frame, tying the score at 20-20 to force a timeout by ETSU. The next four points were split between the two squads before a kill by Bays and a block from Iosua and Gianna Blair made it match point. Following a timeout by the Catamounts, Bays got another kill to end the match. Bays recorded a double-double, logging a match-high 20 kills and 11 digs. Sharp had a team-high 11 kills for Western Carolina. No. 2 Furman 3, No. 7 Mercer 1 ASHEVILLE, N.C. – No. 2 Furman got a hard-fought win in four sets against No. 7 Mercer in the third quarterfinal match of the Ingles SoCon Volleyball Championship. Furman will face the winner of No. 3 Wofford and No. 6 Samford in the second semifinal on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville. The match began as a back-and-forth affair as the teams split the opening 16 points. Mercer went on a run after that and led 15-11 after a kill from Lara Matta, leading to the media timeout. Furman scored five straight points after the break, prompting a timeout by Mercer. Furman kept the pressure on, eventually extending its lead to 22-19 after a kill by Grainne McGrath. Mercer got kills from Matta and Sophia Henry on the next two points, forcing a timeout call by Furman. The Paladins scored three of the next four points to end the set, punctuated by a solo block from Lauren Hayes. In the second set, Mercer led 15-11 at the media timeout again. The Bears maintained their lead and after an ace by Aubri Martin made the score 20-17, Furman took a timeout. An attack error from the Paladins put the Bears ahead 23-19 in the waning moments of the frame. Furman took a timeout at that point, but Mercer held on to win the set, 25-20, tying the match at 1-1. The Paladins were dominant in the third set. Back-to-back kills from Ashley Stein made the score 11-2 early in the frame. Mercer responded to close the gap, but the Paladins’ lead would get to as many as 13 on two different occasions. The final occurrence was via a block from Izzy Castelloe and first-team all-conference selection Tennyson Gorman, ending the set at 25-12. The fourth set was a seesaw battle. The two squads split the first 30 points of the frame before Furman was able to create some separation. The Paladins got their lead to 21-17 after a kill by McGrath, leading to a timeout from the Bears. The Paladins got to match point after a block by Lindsay Walch and McGrath made the score 24-19. The Bears got the next three points before an attack error ended the set 25-22 in favor of Furman, giving the Paladins a four-set win. Stein and McGrath led a balanced offensive attack for the Paladins with nine kills apiece. Eva Wheeler had 20 assists for Furman. The Terriers will face No. 2 Furman in the second semifinal on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville. Samford scored the first four points of the contest, prompting an early timeout by Wofford. The Terriers quickly tied the frame at 4-4, beginning a seesaw affair in the opening set. The score would go back-and-forth as the two teams were tied 22-22 late in the frame. Wofford would go on to score the final three points, going ahead 1-0 in the match. In the second set, the score stayed within one point until two straight blocks by Wofford made the score 17-15, leading to a Samford timeout. The Terriers went on a 4-1 run after the break, which was punctuated by back-to-back kills from second-team all-conference selection Annemarie Rakoski, prompting another timeout by the Bulldogs. Wofford would get to set point following a service error by Samford. On the next point, first-team all-conference selection Bradley Brown got a kill, ending the frame at 25-18. The Terriers got out to a strong start in the third set, moving ahead 10-5 before a Samford timeout. <div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Makayla Bays was named the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Year for the 2025 season. The Buccaneers’ Lindsey Devine was named SoCon Coach of the Year and Wofford junior Laney Klika was selected as SoCon Libero of the Year, while Western Carolina’s Katie Boney was named SoCon Setter of the Year. Mercer outside hitter/right side Charlotte Thompson and Western Carolina middle blocker Tatum Sharp earned the Rayna Taylor Award, given annually to the league’s freshman of the year. The league’s coaches voted on a pair of all-conference teams, an all-freshman team and the five individual awards. They were not allowed to vote for themselves or their own players. Thompson and Sharp were named Co-Rayna Taylor Award winners due to a tie in the voting. Bays became the eighth ETSU player to earn SoCon Player of the Year honors. The sophomore helped the Bucs to the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Ingles Southern Conference Volleyball Championship. The native of Gate City, Virginia, was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. Bays completed the season second in the league in points (446.0), total kills (391) and service aces (38). Devine won coach of the year honors for the second consecutive season after leading the Buccaneers to a 21-6 overall record, with the team going 15-1 in SoCon play. ETSU went 18-1 over its last 19 matches and only dropped consecutive matches during the opening weekend of the season back in August. Devine, who is in her second stint as head coach of the Bucs, won the honor for the fourth time in her career. The other years Devine won SoCon Coach of the Year are 2016, 2018 and 2024. Klika averaged 5.02 digs per set this season, which leads the SoCon and is 13th in the NCAA. The product of Novelty, Ohio, is fourth in the conference in total digs (472). Klika, a junior, received SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 22. Klika, who won SoCon Libero of the Year for the second consecutive season, is the only player in the SoCon averaging over five digs per set. Boney is the fourth player in conference history to be awarded SoCon Setter of the Year, joining ETSU’s Caroline Dykes, The Citadel’s Belle Hogan and Mercer’s Brooke Phillips, the winners in 2022, 2023 and 2024, respectively. Boney finished the regular season with 1,000 assists, which leads the SoCon. The junior from Brookhaven, Georgia, was named SoCon Setter of the Week five times during the season. Boney was also the only player in the league to average over 10 assists per set during the regular season (10.20). Thompson became Mercer’s first SoCon Freshman of the Year. Sharp is the Catamounts’ second selection, joining 2003 winner Kellyn Thaut. Thompson (244) and Sharp (234) are ranked 13th and 14th, respectively, in the SoCon in total kills. ETSU led the way with five postseason all-conference or all-freshman selections followed by Wofford with four. Furman and Samford each had three selections, while UNCG and Chattanooga had two apiece. Mercer and Western Carolina both had one pick. Bays and teammate Whitley Rammel represented ETSU on the first team. Rammel started all 27 matches for the Bucs, finishing in the top three in the SoCon in total blocks (118), blocks per set (1.17) and hitting percentage (.364). Furman’s Tennyson Gorman, UNCG’s Allie Sweet, Samford’s Kaleigh Meritt, Chattanooga’s Sydney Jackwin and Wofford’s Bradley Brown rounded out the first team. Gorman leads the conference in total blocks with 152, which is seventh in the NCAA. Sweet, who made the first team for the second consecutive year, leads the league in points (519) and kills (454), both of which are in the top 15 in the nation. Meritt, a 2023 first-team selection, ranks behind Sweet and Bays in total kills with 380. Jackwin’s 420 points are third in the SoCon, while Brown sits in fifth place in the league in hitting percentage at .337. The second team is highlighted by a trio of players from Wofford as Klika was joined on the second team by middle blocker Annemarie Rakoski and outside hitter Chloe Smith. Furman placed two players on the second team as outside hitter Ashley Stein and middle blocker Izzy Castelloe made the squad. ETSU outside hitter Brianna Cantrell and Samford outside hitter Ally Cordes complete the second team picks. Along with Thompson and Sharp, the all-freshman team includes ETSU’s Sophie Davis and Bailey Gohlke, UNCG’s Connore' Siler-Nixon, Samford’s Sydney Waller and Chattanooga’s Jordin Glass. The Southern Conference Volleyball Championship begins on Thursday with a matchup between Western Carolina and The Citadel. The tournament continues on Friday with four quarterfinal matches. <div class="payload-richtext">The Southern Conference named its Volleyball Players of the Week on Monday for all matches played from November 11-16. Chattanooga’s Gracie Rose (Norcross, GA / Greater Atlanta Christian) was named Offensive Player of the Week, Chattanooga’s Caiti Barthel (Indianapolis, IN / Cathedral HS) was named Defensive Player of the Week, and UNC Greensboro’s Gabby Seeds(Plano, TX / Plano West HS) was named Setter of the Week. Rose led the Mocs to a pair of wins, averaging 3.86 kills per set and hitting at a .273 clip for the week. She added six digs and averaged 3.93 points per set. She had 13 kills in a 3-0 sweep vs. The Citadel, then followed with 14 kills and six digs in a 3-1 win vs. Furman. Rose has recorded double figures in kills seven times in her last nine matches played and has 261 kills this season. Barthel also played a major role in the Mocs’ undefeated week, averaging 5.71 digs per set in wins over Furman and The Citadel. She registered 24 digs in the three-set win over The Citadel, and followed with 16 digs in the win vs. Furman. Barthel added five assists on the week. She has played in 107 sets so far this season and has a career-high 515 digs to her credit. Seeds averaged 8.88 assists per set for the week, keeping the Spartans in contention Thursday night at ETSU in a 3-2 loss, and powering UNCG to a 3-0 sweep of two-time defending SoCon Champion Wofford in the regular season finale. Against the Bucs, Seeds totaled 43 assists and 14 digs on the road. In the Wofford win, she finished with two kills, 28 assists, seven digs, and a service ace in three sets. The tournament will be held Nov. 20-23, in Asheville, North Carolina, at Harrah’s Cherokee Center - Asheville. The tournament, which features all nine teams in the conference, begins with a first-round contest on Nov. 20, when Western Carolina faces The Citadel, at 4 p.m. ETSU (21-6, 15-1 SoCon), who was predicted to finish third in the preseason poll, won the SoCon regular-season title outright for the first time since 2022. As the No. 1 seed, ETSU will face the winner of No. 8 Western Carolina and No. 9 The Citadel on Friday, Nov. 21, at 1:30 p.m. The Buccaneers went 2-0 against both squads, winning over the Catamounts in four sets on Oct. 3, and via sweep on Nov. 1, and defeating the Bulldogs in three sets on Oct. 9 and Nov. 7. Western Carolina won both matches against The Citadel this season. The Paladins will face No. 7 Mercer in the third quarterfinal match. The two teams split the matches during the regular season, with each team winning in four sets on their home court. The two-time defending tournament champion Wofford comes to the championship as the No. 3 seed. The Terriers begin their title defense against No. 6 Samford in the final match of the day on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Wofford won both regular season matches, earning a four-set victory on Oct. 3, and a sweep on Nov. 1. Fourth-seeded Chattanooga will clash with UNCG, the No. 5 seed, in the first match on Friday at 10:30 a.m. UNCG won the two matches in the regular season, besting the Mocs in four sets on Oct. 3, and winning via sweep on Nov. 1. 2025 Ingles SoCon Volleyball Championship Bracket Released

<div class="payload-richtext">SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its volleyball players of the week on Monday for matches played Nov. 3-9. Samford middle blocker Greer Golden was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Furman middle blocker Tennyson Gorman was named Defensive Player of the Week, while the Bulldogs’ Shea Bruntmyer was tabbed Setter of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office. Golden averaged 3.14 kills per set, while hitting .656 in a pair of conference wins for Samford last week. The senior set a school record in the team’s sweep of Chattanooga on Nov. 5, finishing with a perfect 1.000 attack percentage. She finished the contest with 12 kills and three blocks. The next day, the native of Mountain Brook, Alabama, had 10 kills, two digs and two blocks in a four-set win over Western Carolina. Gorman, who also won the honor of Sept. 29, anchored the Furman defense at net, averaging 2.33 blocks per set for Furman last week. In a four-set win over rival Wofford on Nov. 6, the sophomore logged 10 blocks, seven kills and four digs, helping the Paladins to their first victory of Wofford since 2021. On Nov. 8, the Franklin, Tennessee, native registered a career-best 11 blocks, eight kills, three aces and a dig in a five-set win over ETSU, ending the Bucs their first conference loss of the season. Gorman leads the SoCon in total blocks (142), which is fourth in the NCAA, and blocks per set (1.43). Bruntmyer, who won the honor for the third time this season, led the Samford offense in its two victories. The sophomore logged 26 assists and four digs in the team’s win against Chattanooga. The product of Abilene, Texas, finished with 29 assists and five digs versus Western Carolina. Bruntmyer also had an ace in both contests. Samford hosts Mercer on Friday, and The Citadel on Saturday.
