SoCon volleyball players of the week announced

Brown, Kirkendoll and Redman honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its volleyball players of the week on Monday for matches played Sept. 2-8. Wofford middle blocker Bradley Brown was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Chattanooga middle blocker Kynli Kirkendoll was named Defensive Player of the Week, while the Mocs’ Elaine Redman was tabbed Setter of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
 
Brown hit .596, while averaging 3.33 kills per set, as the Terriers swept all three of its opponents in the Wofford Invitational. In the team’s win over Queens on Friday, the freshman had nine kills, three digs and an ace to open the weekend. Later that day, Brown hit a staggering .909, finishing the match with 10 kills and five blocks in a victory over Campbell. On Saturday, the native of Florence, South Carolina, recorded a career-high 11 kills, four digs and an ace in a win over Presbyterian.

Kirkendoll anchored the Chattanooga defense at the net as the Mocs went 3-0 during the Chattanooga Classic. The freshman had five blocks and three digs in the team’s five-set win over Tennessee State on Friday to begin the tournament. The product of Tulsa, Oklahoma, logged career highs in kills (12) and blocks (6) in the second match of the tournament against Charleston Southern, another five-set victory. In the team’s tournament finale against Belmont on Saturday, Kirkendoll finished with 11 kills and four blocks as Chattanooga won in four sets. Kirkendoll was named to the All-Tournament team following the Belmont contest.

Redman, who won the award for the second straight week, paced the Chattanooga offense, averaging 10.71 assists per set. The senior had 53 assists, seven digs and three solo blocks against Tennessee State. Later that day, Redman logged 52 assists, seven digs and two aces in the game with Charleston Southern. The Chattanooga, Tennessee, native finished the weekend with a double-double versus Belmont, recording 45 assists, 12 digs, four kills and a block. Redman was named the Chattanooga Classic MVP following the tournament.

Wofford (4-2) travels to Boone, North Carolina, for the Black and Gold Invitational on Sept. 12-14. The Terriers will play Winthrop, Clemson and App State during the tournament. Chattanooga (6-1) hosts Jacksonville State on Sept. 10, before playing in the SIUE Cougar Classic on Sept. 13-14, against SIU Edwardsville, Bellarmine and Murray State.
