About the Championship The 2013 Southern Conference Baseball Championship took place at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C., on Wednesday, May 22 through Sunday, May 26. The Greenville Drive, along with Furman University, hosted the event, which was the 30th annual Southern Conference Baseball Championship. Third-seeded Elon made an incredible run to the championship after dropping its first game, winning five straight after that to claim its second SoCon tournament title. Along the way, the Phoenix became just the second team in league history to win the event after losing its first game, joining the 1991 Furman squad. Elon earned the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals with a 6-5 win over No. 4 seed The Citadel in the championship game. The Bulldogs' Joe Jackson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, becoming the first player in league history to earn the award from the losing team. Jackson hit .769 in The Citadel's four games, going 10-for-13. In the NCAA Charlottesville Regional, Elon won a pair of games to become the fourth SoCon school since 2010 to reach a regional final. |
