About the Championship

Lewis Hawke headed home the game-winner in the 82nd minute to lead No. 3 seed Furman past No. 1 seed Mercer in the 2014 Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Championship title match at the UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., 1-0. With the win, the Paladins earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship and their first NCAA appearance since 2011. The tournament title was Furman's league-best 12th and first since 2007. Furman's Clint Ritter was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
