About the Championship The 2012 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship took place on Friday, Nov. 2,and Sunday, Nov. 4,in Birmingham, Ala. The 19th annual Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship was held at the Samford Track Soccer Stadium. The Quarterfinals (First Round) were hosted by the top four seeds on Sunday, Oct. 28. Those games determined who advanced to the semifinals in Birmingham, Ala. The archived Championship game can be viewed for FREE on ESPN3 . This year, Georgia Southern's Sydnie Van Curen notched the decisive score in the seventh round of penalty kicks as the eighth-seeded Eagles topped No. 3 seed Furman to win the 2012 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship and claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The teams played to a scoreless draw through regulation and two golden-goal overtimes before the Eagles prevailed 5-4 in penalty kicks.They then went on to face third-seeded, Wake Forest, in the NCAA tournament, where they were eliminated with a score of 4-0. |
