About the Championship
The 2015 Arby's Southern Conference Wrestling Championship took place at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C., on Saturday, March 7. The event was the 78th edition Southern Conference Wrestling Championship.
Regular-season champion Chattanooga won its fifth straight tournament title in 2015, collecting 89 points to easily outdistance runner-up Appalachian State (70.5 points). The Mocs had three individual champions, one runner-up and five third-place finishers. Among their champions was senior Nick Soto, who won his third career title at 133 pounds and fourth overall, becoming just the 16th wrestler in league history to accomplish that feat.
SIUE's Connor McMahon won the 165-pound title as the No. 5 seed, knocking off the Nos. 4, 1 and 3 seeds en route to being named the Most Outstanding Wrestler. Appalachian State's JohnMark Bentley and Gardner-Webb's Daniel Elliott shared Coach of the Year honors.
In all, 14 SoCon wrestlers punched their NCAA tickets at the SoCon tournament, including all 10 individual champions and additional allocations at 125, 149 and heavyweight.
